Renewable Electricity
Energy from Renewable Sources
100% UK Generated Renewable Electricity
Green Energy for Business and Charities.
Charities and Not-for-Profit organisations are choosing Green Electricity and Green Gas as a matter of course as they demonstrate their concern for the environment. If you too are concerned about climate change and recognise the urgency of cutting carbon emissions, you will find it easier than ever to obtain fully renewable business electricity tariffs as part of your commitment to transition to zero carbon.
How Green is Green Electricity?
The EAG green electricity program provides 100% UK generated renewable electricity.
Before making any quick decisions, you should be aware that there are different shades of green. If you are satisfied with ‘green’ branding but not too concerned about where the ‘green’ component comes from, then you have a wide selection. However, if you want to be sure that your supplier uses 100% UK generated renewable power from certified renewable sources, then you should take care.

Types of renewable electricity sources:
- Wind Power: Wind turbines have developed and grown over the years and these massive turbines are incredibly efficient. They are installed in locations known for their constant, strong winds, such as the North Sea.
- Solar Power: Increasingly cost-efficient, solar panels are installed throughout the UK. Solar capacity in the UK has tripled since 2014 and is approaching 13 Gigawatts.
- Hydroelectric Power: Electricity is produced by turbines placed in dams. The UK has relatively little hydroelectric power at around 5.7 gigawatts.
- Biomass: Large scale Biomass plants typically use wood from trees to power turbines. There is some conjecture as to how green this is.
- Wave Power: Has the potential to generate significant amounts of energy. However, the technology is still developing and remains to be proven.
- Geothermal Power: Harvested from deep boreholes in locations with high subterranean temperatures, geothermal power is not readily available in locations where large amounts of energy is needed.
- Tidal Power: Could be the answer to generating huge amounts of power. It is highly predictable and governed by tidal ebbs and flows.
According to the Department for Business Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS) Renewable energy’s share of electricity generation increased to 29.9% in 2020 Q2 from 23.6% for the same period the previous year. The share in 2020 Q2 is the second highest share on renewable generation on record.
Green Electricity: The Downsides.
The one big problem with most of the current renewable energy sources is intermittency. No country can afford to rely on renewable energy to power businesses and homes if the sun doesn’t shine and the wind doesn’t blow.
Thankfully, this issue is being addressed by recent developments in battery energy storage and grid management, which have led to improved grid resilience. Lithium-ion battery prices have declined 85% since 2010 making commercial energy storage, at grid, business and home levels, an increasingly attractive solution.
